Add a Location and Location Type

Add a location

To add a new location to Parks and Facilities:

  1. Navigate to the Parks and Facilities backoffice by using the selector at the top left of the ribbon, or by selecting the tile on your dashboard
  2. Select the 'Add Location' button at the top right. The 'add' dialogue will open
  3. Enter the name of your entry into the 'Enter a location name' field. Click the checkmark button to save the field
  4. Next, set the 'Facility Types' dropdown to match your location
    1. Facility Types are preset and cannot be customized, but you can deactivate the unused option in the Facility Types tab
  5. Set the 'Location Types' dropdown menu to match your location 
    1. Options can be added, removed, or modified using the Location Types tab
  6. Open the 'Activities' dropdown and select all options that apply to your location
    1. You can add additional activities using the Activities tab
  7. Open the 'Amenities' dropdown and select all options that apply to your location
    1. You can add additional amenities using the Amenities tab
  8. Select the 'Next' button at the bottom right to move to the Address section

Add the address

  1. Enter the street address, city, province or state, country, and postal code or zip code in the spaces provided
  2. Enter the latitude and longitude of your location. To determine latitude and longitude, you can follow the steps below. Please note that these values will be rounded up to 6 decimal places (10 cm accuracy) on entry.
  3. Select the 'Next' button on the bottom right to move to the Details section

Finding the latitude and longitude

Follow these steps to find the latitude and longitude of a location:

  1. Navigate to Google Maps
  2. Enter the location’s address in the 'Search Google Maps' field and hit enter. You can also click the magnifying glass at the right end of the field. The map will place a marker at you designated location
  3. Right click on the location marker on the map. An information dropdown will appear
  4. Click on the latitude and longitude provided in the dropdown. This will copy both numbers to your clipboard
  5. Return to the Parks and Facilities module and paste these numbers into the latitude and longitude fields for your location
    1. You will have to delete the second value in the latitude field, and delete the first value in the longitude field, as both numbers will be copied to your clipboard

Add the details

  1. Enter a text description for your location, up to 2000 characters
  2. Add an image to your location by selecting 'click to upload' or dragging an image over the upload box
    1. Images can be PNG, JPG, JPEG, GIF, or WEBP format up to 1600 x 400 pixels and between 500 kb to 1 mb
  3. Select all features that apply to your location. You can add additional features using the Features tab
  4. Set the open and close dates for your location. A date picker is available by clicking on the calendar icon to the right of the text field
  5. Enter the hours of operation for your location
    1. Select 'Repeat Daily' or 'Define Each Day'
    2. 'Repeat Daily' provides fields for a single opening and closing time that will apply to all days. 'Define Each Day' will provide opening and closing times for each day of the week
    3. In both cases, the time picker is available by clicking on the clock icon to the right of the text field
  6. You can enter further details for your location in the phone number, fax number, and website URL fields
  7. Once complete, select the 'Save' button at the bottom right. This will complete the process and return to the location listing. Your location is now available to searchers on the front end

Add a location type

To add a location type in Parks and Facilities:

  1. Navigate to the Parks and Facilities backoffice by using the selector at the top left of the ribbon, or by selecting the tile on your dashboard
  2. Select the 'Location Types' tab at the top of the interface
  3. Select the 'Add' button found in the upper right
  4. Enter a name for your facility type in the field provided
  5. Select if your location type will be active by using the dropdown menu in the second column

  6. The system default and count columns cannot be edited
  7. Click on the save icon at the left of the row to complete the process. Your location type will now be available when adding new locations

Activate or deactivate a location type

To deactivate a location type:

  1. Navigate to the Parks and Facilities backoffice by using the selector at the top left of the ribbon, or by selecting the tile on your dashboard
  2. Select the 'Location Types' tab at the top of the interface
  3. Locate the specific location type in the list. A search field is provided at the top of the interface to assist
  4. Click the slide in the 'Active' column to set the state of the location type. Location types are active when the slider is blue and the indicator is on the right. Location types are inactive when the slider is grey and the indicator is on the left

Inactive types

Inactive types (location types, activities, amenities, and features) are still available when creating new locations. These types will not appear on the public facing search. However, associated locations are still present in the public list of locations. These locations can still be found using location, activities, or amenities-based searches if any active types are applied.

Delete a location type

To delete a location type:

  1. Navigate to the Parks and Facilities backoffice by using the selector at the top left of the ribbon, or by selecting the tile on your dashboard
  2. Select the 'Location Types' tab at the top of the interface
  3. Locate the specific location type in the list. A search field is provided at the top of the interface to assist
  4. Verify that deleting your location type is an option
    1. If there are any locations currently assigned to the location type, the count column will show how many. These will have to be moved to another location type before you can proceed with deleting
  5. Once the location type is no longer associated with any locations (count equals 0), a delete button will appear to the right of the row. Select the delete icon to proceed
  6. A confirmation dialogue box will open. Click 'OK' to confirm and complete the process

Add a facility type

Parks and Facilities does not currently support adding facility types.
