Add Areas of Service

Each sector contains a number of related areas of service that can be added or modified as needed.

Sectors can contain any number of areas of service. Examples of areas of service might include Airbnb or camp sites under Accommodations, or band shells and outdoor galleries under Arts and Culture.

Sectors in the Business Directory module are pre-set. While you cannot add or modify sectors you can shut them off using the toggle in the "Sectors" tab.

Add an area of service

Each sector contains a number of premade areas of service, but you can add custom areas to best suite your region and organization.

To add an area of service in the Business Directory, you need to:

  1. Navigate to the Business Directory back office by using the selector at the top left of the ribbon, or by selecting the tile on your dashboard
  2. Select the 'Sectors' tab at the top of the interface
  3. Open the sector that will contain your area of service using the down arrow icon to the left of it's title. All areas of service must live under one of the pre-generated sectors.
  4. Select the 'Add Area of service' button found at the bottom of the area of service list
  5. Enter a name for your area of service in the field provided
  6. Select if your area of service will be active by using the dropdown menu in the second column. Inactive areas of service will not appear in the public facing search lists.
  7. The system default and count columns cannot be edited
  8. Choose the save button (disk icon) at the left of the row to complete the process

Your area of service will now be available when adding new businesses.

Activate or deactivate an area of service

Not all areas of service may be relevant to your organization. If you do not need an area of service or it does not apply to your entries you can deactivate it.

Note that you cannot delete a system default area of service (those marked with lock icons), but you can deactivate it.

To deactivate an area of service:

  1. Navigate to the Business Directory back office by using the selector at the top left of the ribbon, or by selecting the tile on your dashboard
  2. Select the 'Sectors' tab at the top of the interface
  3. Open the sector that contains your area of service using the down arrow icon to the left of it's title
  4. Click the slide in the 'Active' column to set the state of the area of service. Areas of service are active when the slider is blue and the indicator is on the right. Location types are inactive when the slider is grey and the indicator is on the left

Inactive types

Inactive types (sectors, areas of service, amenities, and features) are still available when creating new businesses. These inactive types will not appear on the public facing search. However, associated businesses are still present in the public list. These businesses can still be found using sector, area of service, or amenities-based searches if any active types are applied.

Delete an area of service

If an area of service becomes obsolete or is replaced by a different option, you may need to delete it.

Note that you cannot delete a system default area of service (marked with a lock icon), but you can deactivate it.

To delete an area of service:

  1. Navigate to the Business Directory back office by using the selector at the top left of the ribbon, or by selecting the tile on your dashboard
  2. Select the 'Sectors' tab at the top of the interface
  3. Open the sector that contains your area of service using the down arrow icon to the left of it's title
  4. Verify that there are no businesses assigned to the area of service. If there are any businesses currently assigned to the area of service, the count column will show how many. These will have to be moved to another area of service before you can proceed with deleting
  5. Once the area of service is no longer associated with any locations (count equals 0), a delete button will appear to the right of the row
  6. Select the delete icon to proceed
  7. A pop-up box will open. Click 'OK' to confirm and complete the process
