Add Media Pages

A media page represents a searchable entry in the media manager listing. In most cases this is a bylaw, policy, map or other document that you want to make available to the public in a searchable database. However, media pages don't require a document. You can create media pages with just meta information as a way of cataloguing large volumes of data that you would like to make searchable.

Before you begin creating media pages, make sure that you have your categories and meta information created.

Create a media page subfolder

You cannot create media pages directly in the media pages folder. You will need to first create a subfolder to store your media pages. If you already have a subfolder you can skip this step.

To create a media page subfolder, follow these steps:

  1. Navigate to the Media Manager node in the content tree and open it
  2. Open the 'Media Pages' node. A list of existing subfolders will expand
  3. Right click the 'Media Pages' node to open the node options menu
  4. Select 'Create'
  5. Select the 'Media Pages Subfolder' document type
  6. Enter the subfolder name in the 'Enter a name...' field. Examples might include Bylaws, Policies, or Properties for Sale.
  7. Switch to the advanced tab and disable delete, if necessary. This prevents the media page subfolder from being deleted by non-administrator back office users
  8. Select 'Save and publish...' to complete the process

You can create additional child folders within your subfolders to better organize your pages. However, we strongly recommend limiting the file structure to 2 folders deep. Folders nested 3 levels or deeper will result in long URLs that may cause issues with search engine optimization.

Create a media page

Media pages can be created in 3 ways.

If you used the 'Media Templates' section of Media Manager to build a media page template, you can create new pages using your template through the tools in your subfolder.

To create a media page from a template, follow these steps:

  1. Navigate to the 'Media Manager' node in the content tree and open it
  2. Open the 'Media Pages' node. A list of existing subfolders will expand
  3. Click the target subfolder node to open the page list. If you have additional sub-folders select your target folder from the list
  4. Select the 'Create' button at the top left of the interface to open a list of templates
  5. Chose your selected media page template from the list
  6. Enter the media page name in the 'Enter a name...' field
  7. If the 'File' field contains a placeholder document, select the trashcan icon to remove it. You will need to mouse over the file to see the option
  8. Select the 'Add' button next to 'File' field to add a document to the media page. The 'Select media' dialogue will open. Choose a file from your media section or upload a new option using the button at the upper right
  9. In the 'Categories' field, select 'Add'. Choose all that apply from the list provided
  10. Open each of the meta information entries and complete the 'Value' field with the required information for your document or page. You can add or remove meta information if necessary
  11. If you would like to add additional text to the top of your media page, you can do so using the 'Text' field in the 'Summary' tab. This text will appear just below the list of categories and above the details table. Note that if you are using the grid view for the Media Manager listing the summary information appears on the display tiles
  12. Select 'Save and publish...' to complete the process or choose the 'Schedule...' option to set the page to publish or expire at a later date

Repeat these steps to add additional media pages using templates.

You can create additional media pages by copying a previously created page or one of the templates from the Templates Builder folder. This can save you time if the pages share similarities.

To create a media page by copying an exiting page or template, follow these steps:

  1. Navigate to the 'Media Manager' node in the content tree and open it
  2. Open the 'Media Pages' or 'Templates Builder' node. A list of existing subfolders will expand
  3. Click the target subfolder node to open the page list
  4. Select the media page to copy by clicking on it's entry in the list. You can click anywhere but on the page name (this will open the page for editing rather than selecting it). You can select multiple pages to copy by clicking on additional entries
  5. Select the 'Copy...' button at the top right of the interface
  6. In the 'Copy' dialogue, select the destination node for the copied pages. Note that you should only copy media pages or templates to the subfolders of the 'Media Pages' node
  7. The page will copy. You may need to refresh your browser or switch away from and back to your target folder to see your new page
  8. Select the name of the new page in the list to open it for editing
  9. Enter the new media page name in the 'Enter a name...' field
  10. If the 'File' field contains a preexisting document, select the trashcan icon to remove it. You will need to mouse over the file to see the option
  11. Select the 'Add' button next to the 'File' field to add a document to the media page. The 'Select media' dialogue will open. Choose a file from your media section or upload a new option using the button at the upper right
  12. In the 'Categories' field, add or remove entries as required
  13. Open each of the meta information entries and edit the 'Value' field with the required information for your new document or page. You can add or remove meta information if necessary
  14. If you would like to add or edit the additional text at the top of your media page, you can do so using the 'Text' field in the 'Summary' tab.
  15. Select 'Save and publish...' to complete the process or choose the 'Schedule...' option to set the page to publish or expire at a later date

Repeat these steps to copy additional media pages or templates.

If your Media Manager is intended to display a large number of media pages with little or no standardization it may make sense to create the content of each page from scratch.

To build a media page from a blank document follow these steps:

  1. Navigate to the 'Media Manager' node in the content tree and open it
  2. Open the 'Media Pages' node. A list of existing subfolders will expand
  3. Click the target subfolder node to open the page list
  4. Select the 'Create' button at the top left of the interface to open a list of templates
  5. Chose 'Media Page(blank)' option
  6. Enter the media page name in the 'Enter a name...' field
  7. Select the 'Add' button next to the 'File' field to add a document to the media page. The 'Select media' dialogue will open. Choose a file from your media section or upload a new option using the button at the upper right
  8. In the 'Categories' field, select 'Add'. Choose all that apply from the list provided
  9. In the 'Meta information field, select 'Add content'. The 'Add content' dialogue will open
  10. Select the type of meta information to add. This will create a new field in the 'Meta information' section of the page
  11. Select the 'Add' button next to 'Meta information' in the new field. This will open the 'Select content dialogue'. Choose the meta information from the options available
  12. Enter a 'Value' for the meta information field
  13. Repeat steps 10 to 13 for each meta information field you would like on your page
  14. Move to the 'Content' tab at the top of your page and specify a layout and headings for your page if required
  15. If you would like to add additional text to the top of your media page you can do so using the 'Text' field in the 'Summary' tab. This text will appear just below the list of categories and above the details table
  16. Select 'Save and publish...' to complete the process or choose the 'Schedule...' option to set the page to publish or expire at a later date

Repeat these steps to create additional media pages from scratch.

What's next?

Once you've created your media pages you can move on to building a media manager listing component to display your information on your website.
