Parks and Facilities Public Webpage

The Parks and Facilities module displays it's content to the public on a web page that you can link to through the navigation features of your website.

Note that the Parks and Facilities public webpage is often not linked in your default menus and navigation. To make best use of the module you will need to add links to the public page once you have completed adding your locations.

Locating the public page in the content tree

Depending on the version of the Parks and Facilities module installed on your website the name of the content tree node representing the public webpage can vary. In most cases it will either be Parks, Parks and Facilities, or Facilities. If you are using the module for a custom purpose the name of your node may vary significantly.

All versions of the module share the same icon in the content tree, so this may be the best way to locate it. The Parks and Facilities icon looks like a small map marker.

Once you have determined the name of your Parks and Facilities node you can use the search function in the link dialogue to search for it when adding it to your navigation, content tree, and page content.

Linking to the public webpage

There a number of places where you may want to add links to your Parks and Facilities public webpage.

The Parks and Facilities page is often located outside your menu structure in the content tree. This means that it will not appear in the main site menus generated by the Menu Manager. To solve this problem you can add an outbound link to Parks and Facilities in your content tree where you would like it to appear in your menu. Once an outbound link is added it will appear automatically in your main menu.

To add a outbound link to your Parks and Facilities public page follow these steps:

  1. Navigate to the 'Content' section in Govstack’s back office. Your user account will need permission to create new nodes.
  2. Right click the parent node that will contain your outbound Parks and Facilities link. Note that you can't create outbound links for your main navigation menus under the 'Home' node. They will need to be nested at least one menu level down.
  3. Select 'Create'
  4. Select 'Outbound Link'
  5. At the top of the new link, in the 'Enter a name' field, add the name you want displayed for your Parks and Facilities public page.
  6. Enter the target URL address for the Parks and Facilities page in the 'External URL' field. To locate this link from the back office, follow these steps:
    1. Open a new instance of the back office in a separate browser tab
    2. In the content tree navigate to the Parks and Facilities node
    3. Confirm that the node has been published. If not, publish the node
    4. Open the info tab at the top right of the page
    5. Open the live version of the page using the URL under the 'Links' section
    6. Copy the URL address found in the browser address bar, including the https://
    7. Paste the resulting URL address into the 'External URL' field of the outbound link dialogue
  7. Set the 'Open in New Tab' slider to off
  8. Select 'Save and Publish' to complete the process

Once these steps are completed your Parks and Facilities module should appear in your main menu in the same location you added the outbound link.

Once you have located the Parks and Facilities module in the content tree (see above) you can link to it using the steps for creating a hyperlink.

Editing the content of the public page

The Parks and Facilities public webpage have several editable fields that you can customize.

To edit these fields follow these steps:

  1. Select your Parks and Facilities node in the content tree
  2.  Edit the Heading, Description, and Search Placeholder fields as required
  3. Save and Publish the page to complete the process

Each of these fields provides the following customization:

Enter a page title to display on the public page in the Heading field. Unlike most nodes the name of the Parks and Facilities node is not used as the page title.

The description is a text block that appears below the page heading and above the search bar. This can be used to explain the purpose of the Parks and Facilities tool or provide instructions.

This text appears in the search field when the Parks and Facilities public page opens. 'Search by facility name' is a common option.
