Create an "I Want To" Menu

You may want to add an "I Want To" menu to your website navigation. This is a great way to help direct users to some of the most actionable content on your website. With an "I Want To" menu, you can prompt users with specific actions. For example, you could create the following menu options within the "I Want To" menu:

  • Apply or Register
  • Pay
  • Give Feedback

Then under these options, you can add links to specific pages.

Configure the menu

Most Govstack sites will come with an "I Want To" menu template available in the back office. All you need to do is configure the settings and publish the menu to your website. To access the "I Want To" menu template, navigate to the Reusable Component in the Global node. Then, select the "I want To Template" to configure the menu options below.

After you've opened the "I Want To Template", there will be a text field at the top of the page that will say "I Want To Template". This is where you can name the menu.

Remove the word "Template" from the menu name so it now says "I Want To".

In the text component labeled "Heading", you can edit the heading text. We recommend keeping the text centered.

To add a column of links to the "I Want To" menu, select the "Link Columns" component. This will open a Pods component that is prepopulated with four link columns.

Select the "Column One" component to update the following settings:

  • For the "Image", you can update the icon that will appear above this menu option. We have provided a template image that you can use
  • In the Heading field, type the heading you'd like to appear. For example, you may say "Register" or "Apply"
  • In the text field, update the links in the bulleted list to the specific pages on your website you want to appear under "Register" in the "I Want To" menu. For example, you could add links to the Recreation Programs", "Childcare", and "Vehicle" pages, etc.
  • Select the "Submit" button

Complete these steps for each of the subtopics you'd like to include in the "I Want To" Menu. We've prepopulated the template with four options. If you don't want this many options, you can hover over one of the columns and select the trash can icon to delete the option.

Leave this option in place if you'd like to include a search bar within the "I Want To" menu. If you don't want a search bar, you can delete this by hovering over the Pod component labeled "Search (Optional)" and select the trash can icon.

Once you've configured the menu, make sure to select the "Save and Publish" button to save your changes.

Add the menu to your navigation

Now that you've configured the "I Want To' menu, you can add the menu to your website navigation. To do this, you need to:
